History of Singapore Math:

Singapore is a country which achieved its freedom from Malaysia in 1965. At that time Singapore was faced with high levels of unemployment and poverty. Unemployment averaged 14%, and half of the population was illiterate. With no natural resources of its own, only ways for country to progress was to invest in its people. Singapore Government did extensive research of various education systems around the world and came up with its own math curriculum in 1980’s. Goal was simple: to make average and below averages students compete with advanced level students around the world. What we know after 3 decades of implementation of Singapore Math is that, from past 3 decades Singapore has been the top performing country in the world in field of mathematics. Singapore has also become the financial hub of Asia because of availability of capable workforce.
